 Introduction:-

Poultry packaging is used to keep the poultry products fresh and safe from other microorganisms, Which poultry product is in the open state? Poultry packaging is also used to increase the shelf time for the poultry product. There are various types of packaging material used to pack poultry products. For e.g., boxes and trays are used to store eggs, biopolymer bags are used to store meat so that the meat doesn’t get rotten. Poultry packaging is not just for packaging, it has various alternative motives like it increases the shelf time of the poultry, the poultry product looks nice in the packaging and it is very appealing towards consumers who are buying it. So, It is necessary to store the poultry in the packaging.



Different Methods Used in Poultry Packaging:-



  • Vacuum packaging:

Vacuum packaging is a method, through which the air is removed completely from the packaging, to let it seal completely so that it can store for a long time.

  •  Controlled atmosphere packaging:

It is a process through which the packaging atmosphere is controlled by adding and removing gases into the packaging.


  • Active and intelligent packaging:

Active packaging through modern development contains a group of techniques in which the package is self-motivated and is actively involved with food products or acts together with an internal atmosphere to extend the shelf life while maintaining quality and safety.

  • Active packaging scavengers:

Active packaging scavengers contain different kinds of ingredients, which are intended to be absorbed, remove and then eliminate the substances, such as oxygen, ethylene, moisture, or taint from the interior of a food package. 




  • Active packaging indicators:

Indicators for temperature, microbial spoilage, package integrity, physical shock, product authenticity, etc can give information on the quality of the food product directly, besides the package and its headspace gases, as well as on the storage conditions of the package. 

  • Antimicrobial agents:

By incorporating antimicrobial agents directly inserted into packaging films, the packaging material can serve as the source of preservatives, or even stops the growth of microorganisms Review the products in the area of active packaging and identify the antimicrobial packaging as one of the most effective versions of the active packaging system.



  •  Active packaging emitters:

This group of active packaging contains the substances, which are meant to travel into the food packaging space or travel to the food to obtain a technological effect in the atmosphere in the package or in the food itself.

EQUIPMENT USED IN POULTRY PACKAGING PROCESS:-


  • Semi-Automatic Bagging & Packing machines:- The Semi-Automatic Bagging & Packing machines are a great part of a complete range for a good and efficient plant design. Fully made of stainless steel & the machine has been made for quick and effective packing of poultry products into plastic bags. Carcasses are then hooked and then go through the funnel into plastic or wrapping bags, which are hung to the outlet side of the machine. Using a special air guiding system, the bags are automatically blown up. Adjustment of blowing time, bag trays adjustment, and pressure time that can be made by 3 control knobs on the control board.



  • Packaging funnel: Packaging funnels are part of a complete range of equipment for the plant design. It is made entirely from stainless steel, the funnel has been specially made for packing poultry into plastic bags, which are connected to the outlet side. A bag holder is available as another option to make the tasks easier easily. The funnel is connected to a packing table.



  • Automatic Packaging Machine:-Machine has been made and built for ultimate reliability, with minimal maintenance. All parts are made of stainless steel or of high-quality synthetic material. All sensitive parts are well shielded, so that the entire machine can be cleaned with a high-pressure water system. Realistic output for a fed packaging machine is approx. 800 birds/h, in combination with a feed link unit it can go up to 1,100 birds/h. The output depends on the local conditions, such as bag and tape quality, and the association around the machine.




  •  Tray Washers:- It is made entirely of stainless steel & the machine has been made for quick and effective cleaning of poultry meat crates. Crates are completely washed with hot water of approximately 55°C in the main wash zone, also allowing the addition of disinfectants for hygienic cleaning. After that, the main wash section the crates are then rinsed with fresh water. The recirculated wash water is cleaned using a static sieve. Heating up the washing water can be done by steam which heats up the washing water using a heat exchanger or by an electric heater. The desired heating type would need to be indicated by placing an order. Various capacities from 150 to 800 crates per hour can be handled.





  • Special Bag Holder:- Special types of bags allow the use of bag holders which makes tasks a much more easy and effective process. The packing machine can be equipped with a tape or a bag clipper which is connected then to the control board. It is also possible to integrate a foot-operated switch for process release.



EGG Packaging Process:-


Different types of factors are considered in the packaging of the eggs. It is important to see all the requirements according to the marketplace. Factors involved in the packaging of the eggs are quality maintenance, type of transportation used in it, time to travel to the marketplace, climate conditions involved, and costs involved.

Many types of packaging are used in the packaging process of the eggs. Different types of designs and shapes are used in the packaging according to the need. Packing of the eggs involved (used) are clean and rice husk, white chaffs, or the straw in a firm walled is used in the packaging, which decreases the risk of the shell breaking. There is another way to pack eggs in the trays without using cushioning ( straws) in the packaging. This type of packaging is used for short-distance travel instead of long-distance.


Meat Packaging Process:-


It’s a very simple as well as a very complex structure of packaging of poultry meat. First, the meat came to the slaughterhouse with the help of transportation services then later on after the slaughter is done, then the whole process is started off removing the feathers, cleaning its insides, and furthermore. Then the carcasses are then hung for a short duration. It helps the meat to let it get cool. Before getting it weighted. Packaging should ensure that the moisture should evaporate and discoloration is done through the process of oxidation. Packages used for meat packaging have different sizes and shapes according to the meat. Shrinkwrapping polystyrene used for covering the packaged meat, plastic & foam trays with PVDC films, or shrink-wrapped low density 4 polyethylene (LDPE) are commonly used. Meat can also be packaged in laminates such as LDPE/Vinyl acetate polymer. Then the packaged meat is distributed further.
